It has been found that parts of David Cameron’s speech during an official visit to Russia were not translation and added to the Kremlin’s site.
The BBC Russian service noted that elements of the speech which appeared on the English language version of the site failed to appear on the Russian language version.
The particular line that failed to appear translated was: “We discussed the need to ensure security and confidence for Georgia and Russia implementing the 2008 ceasefire in full.”
It had been believed by a few that the actual phrase had been politically delicate and removed by the Russian government, but this was refused.
“It is an established practice that we consider the way the words of a foreign guest have been rendered by his interpreter to be the official translation,” reported a spokesperson for the Russian President.
“A possible explanation of this discrepancy is that Cameron’s British interpreter did not translate that sentence into Russian. He apparently missed it out by mistake.”
