About the CTG
The Conservative Transport Group is a Special and Interest Group of the Conservative Party.

History

The CTG was formed just after the 1992 election. It has organised fringe meetings at all the party conferences since then and at a number of Central Councils. It has also organised a number of one day conferences at Central Office. Our first was requested by Roger Freeman when he was at the Department of Transport to discuss railway privatisation.

Publications

The CTG produces policy papers, to which the membership contribute and a regular bi-monthly newsletter which is circulated to members every January, March, May, July, September and November. See the Yahoo CTG discussion site: http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/ctguk04/

Visits

In the past the CTG has organised a variety of visits to transport related sites. These have included the Post Office underground railway, St. Pancras Hotel, the Channel Tunnel workings, the Eurostar train servicing depot, CENTRO, the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal (DIRFT), the TVR factory, Hull docks, rail & tram vehicle manufacturers in Birmingham, Rolls Royce Aero Engines, Avonmouth Docks, Heathrow Airport, the west Midlands Metro and Black Country museum (so members could bring families), Manchester Tramways, Manchester, Luton and Birmingham airports,  Luton Parkway Station, the Eurostar depot at North Pole, The Newcastle Metro Control Centre and a variety of other transport locations.

Membership

Members of the CTG have to be members of the Conservative, although non-members can subscribe to the mailing list. CTG members are involved with, interested in or knowledgeable about transport of all forms.

The annual subscription for full members is £15,  joint membership (two members of the Conservative Party residing at the same address) £20, associate members (non-Conservative Party Members) £12 and for the mailing list £5. Details from the Chairman or Vice Chairman or click here for a CTG Membership Application form.

These are the six big challenges I believe we face. They're complex, interconnected and require serious long-term thinking. I want to make sure we get these challenges right, and that means listening to the views of as many different people as possible.
