Gairloch Highland Gathering! Saturday 3rd July 2004
On Saturday 3rd July 2004 the Annual Gairloch Highland Gathering was held.
Fun for all the family. A good reason to visit Gairloch. Along with the Pipe Band and a
Marquee full of stands, there was Sheep Judging, a Pony Show and a Hill Race. There was a
Pet Parade. For refreshments there was the Tea Tent and of course the Beer Tent. In the
evening there was a dance and a band.
For Bird Lovers!
We have nearby a pair of Sea Eagles that can be seen from the Caravan Park along with many more sea and land birds.
The site has its own slipway with free use by campers for those who wish to
bring their own watersports equipment. The stretch of water in front of the beach is
protected by Longa Island making it ideal for windsurfing, canoeing and sailing. The clear
water is ideal for snorkelling or diving and Longa Island has a rocky coastline as does
other parts of Gairloch Bay. Sea fishing is popular and for those without their own boat,
trips can be arranged from Gairloch Harbour on the hireboats which go out on a daily
basis.
This family run site has been owned by the Cameron family since the 1960s and they personally oversee the running of the site.
The site forms part of the Cameron sheep farm and during July the sheep shearing is an interesting attraction especially for younger visitors.
The site is grass covered with tarred access roads. The only
restriction in choosing a pitch is that there is a minimum of 20 feet (6m) between
neighbours. The site has room for 172 caravans and 200 tents.
The beautiful country around the site is unspoiled and ideal for walking. The site is situated on the road from Gairloch to the village of Melvaig, a quiet single track road ideal for cycling. Fishing is available in the Rivers and Lochs behind the site.

is shorter but contains a few stretches of single track road where passing places are used
to allow oncoming traffic to overtake. they should also be used to allow faster following

Junction 20miles (32Km) from Garve. Turn left onto the A832 and follow the road through
Aultbea and Poolewe to Gairloch in 55miles (88Km). At the foot of the hill after entering
